Important Notice
Please Read Before Submitting a Confidential Crime Report
This service is provided as a special service
for those who wish to report criminal activity
in a confidential manner.
The ON-LINE CONFIDENTIAL CRIME
REPORT page is NOT intended to replace
the
normal crime reporting process. This page is provided as a special service
for those who wish to report criminal
activity
confidentially or who wish to begin the
normal crime reporting process on-line.
Confidential crimes reported no where else
but on this page are not included in the
annual crime report. You may also wish
to consider calling the UPD
Tip Line at
(408) 924-2236 or filing your information
with the Silicon
Valley Crime Stoppers.
The San Jose State University Police Department
strongly encourages all victims and witnesses
to report criminal activity immediately
to the police agency where the crime occurred.
You can contact the University Police by
dialing 911 from any University telephone,
picking up any Blue Light Telephone or calling
(408) 924-2222.
We are also aware that under certain circumstances
a person may feel that they do not wish
to make a formal report and would prefer
to have their information and identity remain
confidential. Therefore, the University
Police Department has provided Confidential
Crime Reporting through our Internet World
Wide Web site (www.sjsu.edu/police).
If you wish to make a Confidential Crime
Report, please provide as much information
as you are willing. Your personal information
will remain Confidential as allowed under
the law.
A Confidential Crime Report is not the
same as a Police Report that is filed and
investigated by the police department. Because
our investigators will have little information
to go on, we are unlikely to prosecute any
crime reported confidentially. However,
you may find it useful to make this report
in case you need to document the incident
for future reference. UPD will also keep
your confidential report in mind as a reference
for other such incidents that might be reported
by others.
You may also file a routine report with
the University Police by email (police@email.sjsu.edu).
You will be contacted by telephone or in
person as soon as possible, usually within
one to two business days, for a follow up
to your report request. Your report will
be issued a case number and will be included
in the annual crime report. We encourage
on-line reporting, by email, only for minor
crimes or situations where the lack of an
immediate police response will not endanger
you or hamper any investigation. |
