University Police Officers patrol the SJSU campus and the surrounding area 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The officers patrol the campus on foot, on bicycle and by vehicle in an effort to deter crime and to be readily available to the campus community.

Four Teams of Officers (Teams A, B, C and D) work 12 hour shifts. Each patrol Team generally consists of one Sergeant, one Corporal and two Officers. During special events on campus, additional UPD officers will be on duty, augmented by officers from other university police departments, and surrounding law enforcement agencies, including the San Jose Police Department.

All officers are State certified as prescribed by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training and as defined in section 830.2 of the California Penal Code.
