The
Chief of Police reports directly to the
Vice President for Administration &
Finance, and is the Chief Law Enforcement
Officer of San José State University
responsible for planning, directing and
organizing the University Police Department.
The Chief
of Police supervises and manages the University
Police Department budget in a manner consistent
with parameters of budget authorization
and University mission; acts as the University's
liaison with external public safety agencies
and community organizations (especially
the City of San Jose); supervises and
manages
the comprehensive and overall university
law enforcement program, facility security,
emergency preparedness, parking and traffic
control, and access control program while
keeping abreast of and implementing appropriate
current professional trends and developments;
supervises and manages UPD personnel policies
and decisions including recruitment, selection,
training and evaluation in a manner that
attracts, develops and retains a cutting-edge
professional and diverse work force; maintains
a close working relationship with all
members
of the University community including students,
faculty, staff and administrators based
upon a 'service-based policing' approach;
maintains regular contact and involvement
in appropriate professional law enforcement
and public safety organizations with a
focus on bringing the highest levels of
professional
excellence to the community; develops and
oversees an on-campus training program
for
UPD officers based upon a commitment to
continuous improvement. |
